Our third church plant -
TAGBILARAN CITY

CHURCH BACKGROUND
AND HISTORY

Our third church is in the middle of Tagbilaran City on the Bohol mainland. Tagbilaran City has over 100,000 residents, and it is the ideal location to plant a model church for the pastoral leadership school students to see. We believe the best way to learn is by doing. It's also Jesus' model — Jesus taught the disciples and took them along on "ministry trips," before sending them out on their own.

CURRENT STATUS
OF CHURCH

We now have about 35-40 adults and 60-70 children attending every Sunday. The church's members are growing in worship, discipleship, and friendship evangelism. We have youth group events on Sunday afternoon, a Bible study on Sunday evening, and a prayer meeting during the week.

MEETING PLACE
We meet in a bodega, which is like a warehouse. Next to it is a smaller building with our offices, Sunday School classrooms, and a storage area. A few doors away is Charlie's House, our drop-in center for street children.

During the week, the bodega facility is used to feed poor children in our Charlie's Lunch program. We also built our own ping-pong table, which draws kids off the streets.

Teresa with her kids
Teresa is our administrative assistant who keeps us all organized; she is also a schoolteacher and works with our children's outreach program.

Sunday morning service, with John Mory leading the worship team
A typical Sunday morning service. John Mory usually leads the worship team; son Jacob plays the drums, son Josiah plays bass, daughter Jamie sings. We also have other singers, a percussionist, and a keyboardist. We are doing some worship evangelism in the streets as a church outreach.

LIVELIHOOD TRAINING
Livelihood is still a very important ministry area for us. You know that old saying, "If you give a man a fish, you feed him once; if you teach a man to fish, you feed him for the rest of his life." Well, in addition to our experimenting with farm crops, animals for distribution, and fertilizer investments for rice fields, we just finished a two-month course for 20 women living in the vicinity of the Tagbilaran City church. Not only did they learn specific skills that have enabled them to make a business for themselves, but we concluded each day with a Bible study using "Hinds Feet on High Places" (the study was led by Juli Mory). The results were incredible. Deep relationships were built with each woman, several were saved, and those plus a few more are coming to church regularly. All of them are asking how soon we can start another Bible Study! [1]

CHILDREN'S CURRICULUM
Juli Mory trains the teachers and coordinates the teaching curriculum for weekly outreaches to children in several needy barangays. We have trained volunteers in using the puppets, and hope to start some outreaches at hospitals and children's schools.

Prayer requestsPrayer
requests

Please pray for God to raise up leaders and workers for this church. As the "mother-church," we have sent out several teams to new church plants; and many of our members have left for Manila and other larger cities, in search of employment.

There are three Muslim areas in Tagbilaran City. Please pray for the Muslims here, and pray for the right pastor to begin a church for Muslims.
